Massive Quantum Vortices in Superfluids

Abstract We consider the dynamical properties of quantum vortices with filled massive cores, hence term “massive vortices”. While motion massless is described by first-order equations, inclusion core mass introduces a second-order time derivative in equations and thus doubles number independent variables needed to describe vortex. The simplest possible system where this physics present, i.e. single vortex circular domain, thoroughly discussed. point out that can exhibit various regimes, as opposed its counterpart, which only precess at constant rate. predictions our analytical model are validated means numerical simulations coupled Gross-Pitaevskii indeed display signature inertial mass. Eventually, we discuss nice formal analogy between charges two-dimensional domains pierced magnetic fields.
